massive flower & winter

This is one of the 'massive flower' skirts that I made from second hand dresses in the (now distant looking) summer. You can see the other one here.

summery massive flower and a more autumnal ensemble

I've always worn this skirt with black tops, so it has been really easy to switch it into a wintery mood, simply adding tights and a pullover or blazer. Then I've picked my accessories in bright colors to match the massive flower, particularly the also massive brooch which I rediscover in a drawer some time ago. It was one of my experiments with papier maché years ago and, every time I wear it, I miss making this kind of crafty things. However, now I'm busy making other things, actually I have enough projects to keep me busy for a decade!

- black coat, retail (old) / abrigo negro, de tienda local
- blazer, October (I have had it for at least fifteen years) / chaqueta, October (quince años por lo menos)
- sneakers, Adidas outlet (old) / zapatillas
- striped t-shirt, C&A (old) / camiseta de rayas
- scarf, sunday street market (probably a counterfeit, not proud of this) / pañuelo, de mercadillo, probablemente sea una falsificación de alguna marca, que es algo que no me gusta.
- beret, a present / boina, un regalo
-------------
- black coat, Anne Weyburn (La Redoute) (more than ten years old) / abrigo negro, de hace más de diez años
- black pullover, La Redoute (old) / jersey de punto negro
- boots, Treksta outlet (old) / botas
- necklace, charity market (old) / collar, de un mercadillo solidario

I've been wearing plenty of black color these rainy and windy days, but I always try to cheer it up. A vibrant scarf is always a great idea to cheer up a dark color coat, and I can't recommend this highly enough!. There's nothing wrong in having a black coat, but you don't have to wear boring accessories with it!. A black background enhances any bright bold color, so you can wrap yourself in orange, red, purple or yellow scarves and have fun!. Even black scarves can look pretty interesting if they have texture, shine or an amazing pattern (think on black&white graphic designs).
Hope you are enjoying your week whatever the weather!

  1. I love seeing your clothes in all the seasons! The (bastard) massive flower skirt is one of my favourite ever of your fantastic garments, it looks just as good in the Autumn as it did Spring and Summer. xxx

  2. I'm really loving the huge flower skirt and I love all your accessories with it. The scarf is beautiful and really offsets the black top and blazer; as you say. Your hand made paper mache brooch is just beautiful and the colours in it echo the scarf. Love your beret and the sunshine yellow straw bag. Who cares if it's winter if you dress warmly and colourfully!! I can't imagine you in head to toe black...

    Have a great weekend

  3. I wish more people wearing black coats managed to look as colourful as you do in yours, Monica! Actually, looking at your photos, it's the colours that pop out, and the black fades into the background, a canvas for all your colourful accessories. I always love seeing your massive flower skirt, and I love it that you're wearing that massive brooch to keep it company. That orange scarf is a delight, and obviously I'm loving your beret with its jaunty flower! Besos xxx

  5. I so enjoy your colourful outfits, especially the accessories. I have several black coats and I try to always wear a colourful scarf to break up the "Black". The best pieces of clothing are those that can be worn multiple seasons.

  7. Oh, I so agree about adding bright scarves and outerwear to our winter/cold weather outfits. It's far to easy to slip into wearing all dark, depressing colours. Your skirt always makes my heart sing, and how awesome that you have a matching brooch! Wishing you a wonderful week, Monica!
