Holiday & Baggage

Once more, it has taken me a whole week to be minimally operational after holiday. Always a shock to the system, but I'm kind of 'business as usual'. We changed Lanzarote for Tenerife this time, as we wanted to give Tenerife another chance (we travelled to the south of the island and was a nice holiday but not our style actually, too focused on resorts, and too far away any village where have real food or go for a walk). Obviously, I felt encouraged to visit Puerto de la Cruz after reading about Vintage Vixen's last adventure there and told Mr.A. to give it a try. It did not dissapoint us!

De nuevo me ha costado una semana (o más) estar mínimamente operativa después de volver de vacaciones. Siempre me cuesta, sobre todo por el cambio de clima, pero estoy de vuelta!. Esta vez cambiamos Lanzarote por Tenerife, por cambiar y por darle otra oportunidad. Habíamos estado en el sur de la isla y lo pasamos bien pero no es nuestro estilo, muy enfocado en turismo de resort, sin más que hacer, y había que acercarse a los pueblos para comer algo o darse una vuelta. También me animó el haber leído los viajes de Vintage Vixen a Puerto de la Cruz, que siempre me pareció muy interesante. Y no nos ha decepcionado!

The weather was not particularly sunny, it even rained some days but the temperatures were quite balmy, so it was ok for us, lovely weather to go for a walk (or two or three!). Actually, we've walked a lot. However, there was another coastal phenomenon, so we did not even think about swimming in the sea (red flags everywhere). We were told by locals that Spring was being incredibly rainy and stormy, they were not used to that kind of weather!. Actually the weather is weird everywhere (the temperature was higher in our hometown than it was in the islands!).

No tuvimos un tiempo especialmente soleado, incluso llovió algún rato, pero la temperatura es templada como de costumbre por allí, así que estupendo para nosotros que somos más de pasear. Y hemos caminado un montón y visto muchas cosas. Pero es que había una borrasca con mar de fondo y ni se podía acercar uno al mar (bandera roja!). Varias personas nos contaron que estaban hartos de tanta lluvia y borrascas, una primavera rarísima allí y muy poco normal. Pero es que el tiempo no está normal en ningún sitio: hizo más calor en nuestra ciudad que en las islas!

We enjoyed some beautiful landscapes, picturesque streets and traditional architecture. Many people stopped to chat or asked where we came from to start a conversation (lots of small talk, be aware!). There are lots of restaurants and tabernas and terrazas suitable for all budgets, so we did not run out of options!.

Los paisajes son una maravilla, calles con encanto y arquitectura tradicional, todo estupendo. Y la gente se para a hablar, te preguntan de dónde vienes para empezar a conversar un poquito, un ambiente muy relajado. También hay una variedad estupenda de bares y restaurantes y terrazas para todos los gustos y presupuestos, opciones para todos!.

As we're both huge fans of Botanical Gardens, we had to visit the so fabulous La Orotava Botanical Garden, which we loved. One of the most amazing ones ever. Fascinating. And there are more gardens to visit, as Sitio Litre!. And those colourful Agatha Christie steps!

Nos encantan los jardines botánicos, así que teníamos que ir a ver el Jardín Botánico La Orotava que es una maravilla y nos encantó. Y no es el único jardín que puede visitarse, hay más jardines que ver y pasear. Y las escaleras dedicadas a Agatha Christie!.

We enjoyed a fabulous week in our usual quiet lifestyle (I did not take a lot of photos, and our best moments were spent just sipping a coffee at a terrace). Anyway, it was a wonderful holiday, we walked a lot, had some delightful food and we even made the most of the hotel swimming pool, despite the weather was not very inviting.

Al final pasamos una semana estupenda, en nuestro habitual modo tranquilo, caminando mucho, tomando tapas y comida rica y hasta aprovechamos la piscina del hotel, aunque no hiciese el mejor tiempo para ello. Al final, los mejores ratos igual se pasan tomando un café en una terraza, simplemente disfrutando del momento!.

We've been commenting that we feel that air travels are increasingly annoying (or we're fussier as we age!), so we stuck to cabin baggage. Anyway, it's always better to avoid peak seasons and it was not possible this time.
Últimamente hemos comentado que volar se nos hace cada vez más molesto (o quizás es que cada vez somos más viejos), así que hemos preferido viajar con equipaje de cabina. Siempre es mejor cuando evitas temporada alta y esta vez no lo conseguimos.

That's what I packed, basically two dresses (you can see them in previous photos!), turquoise trousers with two blouses, one cardi, cotton scarf, sandals and slippers. I usually pack my less voluminous shoes, in a canvas bag, and put small items into them (my spare glasses, a packet of wipes). I also packed a tunic and short leggings which could be worn to go to the beach/pool or to stay 'at home' (no pyjamas for me). And there were also some underwear and socks!
Esta es mi maletita, básicamente dos vestidos (los que podéis ver en las fotos anteriores), pantalón turquesa con dos blusas, una chaquetita, un pañuelo de algodón, sandalias y chancletas. Normalmente meto en la maleta el calzado que sea menos voluminoso, en bolsa de tela, y les pongo algún objeto menudo dentro (mis gafas extra, un paquete de toallitas). También iba en la maleta una túnica y unos leggings cortos que pueden llevarse para ir a la playa/piscina o como ropa 'de andar por casa' (no uso pijamas). Y luego la típica bolsita con ropa interior y calcetines.

All my liquid products went into usual zip bag. Some eye drops, mini-mascara and eyeshadow stick. Cleansing gel and mild soap in small containers. Moisturizer, 50SPF sunscreen, toothpaste and deodorant. I'm not into any complicated skincare routine myself, much less when I'm travelling. I also packed that pink toiletry bag with my no-liquid stuff, as a small mirror and tweezers, my toothbrush, dental floss and some wet wipes. Once I pass controls, everything goes into that toiletry bag.
La bolsita zip con los líquidos. Unos colirios, rímel y un lápiz/sombra de ojos. Dos frasquitos con el gel limpiador facial y un jabón suave. Hidratante, crema solar 50spf, pasta de dientes y desodorante. No soy de rutinas de belleza complicadas, mucho menos cuando viajo. También va en la maleta un neceser pequeño, con productos no-líquidos, el espejito y las pinzas, el cepilo de dientes, hijo dental y unas toallitas húmedas. En cuanto paso el control, va todo al neceser y punto.

Accessories make a difference and don't take too much room!. I packed two different length necklaces, three pairs of earrings, two bracelets, a pendant and that's all!. I wore my 'leaves earrings' during the trip, but kept my rings and pendant into my bag until I passed controls. And that's what I wore during the trip, pink trousers, a blouse and cotton scarf, my comfy sneakers by Elementerre (waterproof!), and a black jacket by Seasalt. I always pick my shoes and outerwear first when packing, then I try to create outfits around them, matching colours and accessories.
Los accesorios añaden mucho y ocupan poco espacio!. Elegí dos collares de distinta longitud, tres pares de pendientes, dos pulseras, y un colgante. Para el viaje, me puse los pendientes de hojitas, pero llevaba el anillo y colgante en mi bolso hasta que pasé el control. Y aquí podéis ver mi modelito de viaje, pantalón rosado, una blusa y un pañuelo, unas zapatillas cómodas de Elementerre y mi chaqueta impermeable de Seasalt. Siempre elijo primero los zapatos y la chaqueta cuando hago la maleta, luego intento que todo combine en colorido, y también los accesorios, el conjunto completo.

Easter & Back

After five days of public holiday (which included Easter Monday), we're coming back into our usual lifestyle, which means no tourists everywhere and no religious processions involving traffic diversions. Usually we keep away from the city centre during those events and make the most of early mornings, when streets are not crowded. However there were loads of people even on Saturday morning when we did our groceries shopping. I'm the first one that loves a local market but sometimes it's ridiculous to see so many people taking pictures of charcuterie or vegetable stalls. Not to mention that many comments are quite patronizing or even rude. What does happen in people's brain when they go out to visit another city? Because they suddenly feel entitled to behave like a tourist (in the worst possible way), even people who are usually model citizens in their hometowns. Who knows?.

Después de cinco días de vacaciones (que incluyen el lunes de pascua), volvemos a nuestro habitual estilo de vida tranquilo, sin turistas por todos lados ni procesiones con los consiguientes cortes de tráfico y autobuses. Normalmente nos mantenemos bien lejos del centro de la ciudad durante los momentos culminantes, y aprovechamos las mañanas tempranito, cuando casi no hay gente. Pero esta vez había montones de gente hasta el sábado por la mañana cuando fuimos a hacer compra. Soy la primera a la que le encanta visitar un mercado, pero llega a ser un poco ridículo ver tanta gente sacando fotos de los puestos de charcutería o de verduras. Sin mencionar que se oyen comentarios bastante condescendientes y a veces un poco ofensivos. Me pregunto qué le pasa a tanta gente en la cabeza en cuanto se van a visitar otra ciudad, porque de repente se sienten autorizados a comportarse como nunca lo harían en su propia ciudad, con todo descaro. Quién sabe qué les pasa por ahí!

The weather was damn summery finally, so no coat nor even a jacket was needed. I just wore a crochet cardi over a short sleeved t-shirt, and my recently acquired (Vinted) viscose trousers. I asked Mr.A. to take a photo even if the background was not very glamourous (Real Life!), as there was a decent lighting and no people on sight. Making the most of every moment!
Al fin el tiempo salió bastante veraniego, así que nada de abrigo ni siquiera una chaqueta. Me puse tan solo esta chaquetita de ganchillo, con una camiseta de manga corta y estos pantalones recientemente comprados en Vinted, que son de viscosa muy ligeros. Le pedí a Mr.A. que me tomase una foto aunque el fondo no sea nada glamuroso (es la Vida Real!), ya que había buena luz y no pasaba nadie. Hay que aprovechar estos momentos.

We spend most of the time at home, involved in our Spring Renovation (not very ambitious, despite the naming). I've plastered some cracks in our bedroom wall (not dangerous, but very visible!) and painted it in a more vivid colour. Previous color looked a little bit faded, a dusty teal. Totally happy now even if it took three coats to achieve that bold colour!. It's a deep turquoise-blue called 'Miami'. Aren't amazing some paint names?
Estas fiestas las hemos pasado en casa casi todo el tiempo, enfrascados en la Renovación de Primavera (bueno, han sido más bien unos retoques ;D). Esta pared de nuestro dormitorio tenía unas grietas, que eran sólo cuestión estética, pero se veían mucho, así que las rellené, lijé y pinté la pared en un color algo más vivo. El anterior color se veía un poco desvaído, era un tono azulverdoso. Ahora estoy encantada con el nuevo color aunque necesitó tres manos para alcanzar el tono intenso de turquesa fuerte que tiene. El color se llama 'Miami', siempre suelen ponerles nombres fantasiosos a los colores de pintura.

Obviously, we've also taken advantage of the high temperatures (up to 27ºC) to wash curtains, bedcovers and cushions and air dry our laundry. Fantastic weather for a walk too!. I was looking forward to wearing sandals, and wore for the first time that pair (by Paredes, New!). Also wore those trousers shopped at Vinted last year, a crochet cardi (of course) and that cross body bag which was retail shopped years ago. That scarf was a present by my friend M.

Claro está que también aprovechamos las temperaturas tan altas (27ºC y más) para lavar cortinas, colchas, almohadas y colgarlas a secar afuera. También un tiempo estupendo para pasear. Estaba deseando ponerme sandalias y estrené este par, nuevecitas, de Paredes. También me puse estos pantalones que había comprado en Vinted el año pasado, una chaquetita de ganchillo (cómo no!) y el bolsito que es de una tienda local de hace años. El pañuelo me lo regaló mi amiga M.

Spring & Fun

Another visit to my hometown!. We stayed for some days at my parent's home and joined Mom in her walks and then had an apéro with her at a local taberna (or two!). Mom always take us to really picturesque places and we had a wonderful time!. That great mural depicts some playing cards figures, which points to the nearby Museum of playing cards, which are still a local manufacture.

Otra visita a mi ciudad natal!. Nos quedamos unos días en casa de mis padres y salimos con Mamá a dar una vuelta y tomar el vermú (tradición familiar!). Siempre acabamos viendo algunos sitios muy bonitos, imposible no sacar alguna foto!. Este gran mural representa figuras típicas en los naipes, señalando al cercano Museo del Naipe, que sigue siendo una manufactura local.

Back to office on Monday, I picked something colourful to cheer up the day. That orange puff jacket was retail shopped. Striped pullover by PuntRoma (ages old). Second hand skirt (old). Wool beret was retail shopped. Earrings and bracelet from Vinted. Scarf by AlpagaLeMonde. Bag by Lolina (retail shopped). Ring by Ciclón (old).
De vuelta a la oficina el lunes, elegí algo de colorido para animar el día. Chaqueta acolchada naranja de una tienda local, jersey de rayas de PuntRoma (hace siglos), falda de segunda mano. Boina de una tienda local. Pendientes y pulsera de Vinted. Bufanda de AlpagaLeMonde. Bolso de Lolina (de una tienda local). Anillo Ciclón (antiguo).

That's my 'visible from space' coat (by Ulla Popken) that I've worn multiple times even if it was shopped just a few weeks ago!. Actually, I'd like to wear it with anything minimally purple or yellow in my wardrobe, so lots of possibilities. I also acquired a purple vest, which I've worn with similar vintage skirts, lots of matchiness!. That 80's skirt came from a second hand stall at Sunday street market (probably 2 or 3€). Striped t-shirt by CandA (old). Tights by Snag and shoes by Camper.
Otra vez el abriguito nuevo 'visible desde el espacio' de Ulla Popken, que me he puesto un montón de veces desde que lo compré hace unas semanas. En realidad, pienso ponérmelo con todo lo que sea mínimamente combinable en mi armario, así que hay muchas posibilidades. También compré hace tiempo este chaleco morado, que me he puesto ya con faldas vintage, muy combinable. Esta falda ochentera la compré de segunda mano en el mercadillo (saldría por 2 ó 3€). Camiseta de rayas del CandA, medias Snag y zapatos Camper.

Vinted keeps tempting me with lovely dresses and I could not say no to that one, totally my kind of print. I wore it immediately, even if I had to layer it over a turtleneck and tights!. Glad that I have an orange jacket to match too!.
Vinted me sigue tentando con vestidos chulos, y no pude decirle no a este, porque el estampado es totalmente mi estilo. Me lo puse inmediatamente, aunque tuvo que ser sobre un cuello vuelto y unas medias. Suerte que tengo una chaqueta naranja para acompañarlo!.

Repeat Offender of the week was that floral dress (from Vinted) with crochet cardi-thing, and my Seasalt trench for another rainy day. The Spring keeps playing hide-and-seek, a few sunny days, then rain and storms. But the weather is slowly improving, I think!. We're having more and more 'no hat' days (as I call them) or good weather days, which means that neither a wool hat nor a straw hat was needed. That's my kind of good weather!
El reincidente de la semana es este vestido floral (de Vinted) con chaqueta-chaleco de ganchillo y la gabardina de Seasalt, para otro día de lluvia. La primavera sigue jugando al escondite, unos pocos días de sol seguidos de lluvia y borrascas. Pero parece que el tiempo va mejorando. Cada vez tenemos más días en que ni hace falta ponerse un gorro de lana ni un sombrero de paja, que son justo lo que yo llamaría buen tiempo!.

Bold & New

Totally in a Colour Therapy Month myself, so I took advantage of winter sales and bought a new coat (as if I needed one!) at a heavy discount. Obviously not beige. The seasonal sales can look quite outdated when 'special offers' are everywhere all the time, but they're still a thing. And I think that sales are a good time to fill the gaps in your wardrobe, acquiring a coat or winter boots for a fraction of the price, or shopping some underwear or socks (I'm that old-school). And I recommend to keep your eyes peeled for any 'out of season' item which you could find, from bikinis in January to wool coats in July, that most people usually skip. But the best advice ever is to keep to the budget and second best is to focus on what's important To You!. Remember that fashion industry (which includes second hand market) is designed neither for your advantage nor for your happiness. So let's keep focused on creativity and joy!

Como sigo en mi momento de ColorTerapia, no pude evitar aprovechar las rebajas para comprar este abriguito nuevo (como si necesitase uno!) con un descuento buenísimo. Y claro está, no es beige. Las rebajas de fin de temporada puede que sean una cosa del pasado, ahora que nos invaden las ofertas 'especiales' a cada momento, pero todavía existen. Y siguen siendo un buen momento para comprar artículos que todos necesitamos, como un abrigo o botas de invierno (que además suelen ser caros!), o incluso ropa interior o calcetines (una compra sin glamour pero necesaria!). Y también hay que mantenerse alerta ante ofertas en artículos 'fuera de temporada', desde bikinis en enero a abrigos de lana en julio, que la mayoría de gente pasa de largo. Pero el mejor consejo que puedo dar es respetar tu presupuesto, y el segundo mejor es no perder de vista lo que de verdad importa, tus gustos, tus intereses. Hay que recordar en todo momento que la industria de la moda (y esto incluye la de segunda mano) no está hecha para tu beneficio, ni para cubrir tus necesidades ni para hacerte feliz (eso nunca!). Así que mejor centrarse en lo que nos importa, ser creativas y lo más felices que podamos!

That's my new bold coat by Ulla Popken. I've acquired a few pieces from this brand, both second hand and new, because I discover it at second hand stalls (where they sell clothes from different countries, so lots of labels I've never seen), then looked for that brand at Vinted and finally I acquired some new clothes (on sales!). So I did the route backwards (and not sponsored, obviously). Anyway, it's a really comfortable, soft and versatile coat, despite I was afraid that being two-coloured could make it difficult to style. I've been told that it probably makes me visible from space, which I decided it's a compliment!. I wore it for the first time on a sunny Tuesday, with some knit trousers (also by Ulla Popken) and a second hand blouse. Obviosly, I had to wear purple shoes (Camper). And my recently acquired bag by Lolina (retail shopped).

Y aquí está mi abrigo nuevo, nada discreto, de Ulla Popken. Últimamente he comprado algunas prendas de esta marca, tanto de segunda mano como nuevas, porque primero la descubrí en los mercadillos de segunda mano (donde hay ropa de diferentes países, así que hay etiquetas que no he visto en la vida), luego la busqué en Vinted, y finalmente compré de la marca online (en rebajas), así que hice el camino al revés. Y tampoco me patrocinan ni nada. Bueno, pues el abrigo es cómodo, suave y bastante versátil, a pesar de que pensaba que sería más difícil de combinar por ser bicolor. De paso, me han comentado que probablemente se me vea desde el espacio con este abrigo puesto, lo cual he decidido que es un cumplido!. Lo estrené un martes soleado, con unos pantalones de punto (que también compré en Ulla Popken) y una blusa de segunda mano. Y claro está que tenía que ponerme mis zapatillas moradas de camper. Y este bolso de Lolina (comprado en una tiendecita local).

It's still freezing cold in the mornings (2ºC) but the temperature can rise quickly as soon as sun is high, so typically spring weather!. Usually I pick layers as my strategy but always prefer to be a little bit cold in the morning than having to drag myself in the midday heat. So I wore some summery trousers (retail shopped years ago) and a lightweight blouse that I acquired second hand (label Gudrun Sjoden). It's more colourful in person, but it's difficult to photograph!. That vest was crocheted by me using a 70's pattern. Sneakers by Adidas outlet. Second hand beads and retail shopped earrings. Vintage sunnies were a present by my friend M.
Todavía hace frío por las mañanas (2ºC) pero luego suben las temperaturas rapidito en cuanto hace sol, así que típico tiempo primaveral. Normalmente las superposiciones son lo mejor, pero siempre prefiero pasar un poco de frío por la mañana que arrastrar la ropa luego al mediodía con el sofoco. Así que me puse unos pantalones de verano (de tienda local, hace años) y una blusa muy ligera que compré de segunda mano (de Gudrun Sjoden), y que es más colorida en persona pero no se fotografía bien. El chaleco es de ganchillo, con un patrón de los setenta. Zapatillas Adidas outlet. Collar de segunda mano y pendientes de comercio local. Las gafas de sol son vintage, regalo de mi amiga M.

Too windy for photos, and it was colder than expected, so not the best idea to wear a blouse and fishnet tights. At least my new coat is quite warm!. That blouse and skirt are both second hand from Sunday street market. Waistcoat by Ulla Popken (again!). Shoes by Camper (old). Fishnet tights by Snag. Brooch was a present by Mr.A's mom. Charity shopped scarf. That bracelet came from Vinted. Ring by Ciclón (old).
Mucho viento para fotos, y además más frío de lo que se esperaba, así que tampoco fue muy buena idea ponerse blusa ligera y medias de rejilla. Al menos el abrigo sí que es calentito. La blusa y falda son ambas de mercadillo, de segunda mano. Chaleco de Ulla Popken (otra vez!). Zapatos Camper (antigüitos). Medias de Snag. El broche fue un regalo de la mamá de Mr.A. That's what I wore on Friday to the office and I was lucky enough to receive some positive comments from coworkers (who usually don't bat an eyelid, whatever I wear). It's possible that I'm inadvertenly educating them in appreciation of Colour! (or are they simply being nice to me?), who knows!. That's a second hand skirt with a crochet jumper I made. And usual scarf so old it's vintage (so my own home-grown vintage!).
Esto es lo que me puse el viernes para ir a la oficina y tuve la suerte de recibir algunos cumplidos de mis compañeros de trabajo (que normalmente ni se inmutan, lleve lo que lleve). Es posible que sin quererlo los esté acostumbrando a apreciar el color (o es que simplemente son muy amables), quién sabe!. Esta falda es de segunda mano, con un jersey de ganchillo que hice. Y la habitual bufanda, tan antigua que es vintage, así que vintage de mi propia cosecha.
