winter & skirts

I was looking forward to wear this new-to-me skirt. It was a recent find at the Sunday street market. I noticed the quality double knit, the pleated design, the bold colour!, but also noticed the size label which I looked at in dismay (42?). However its size didn't looked like a 42, knit had some stretch, and I convinced myself to give it a try at the amount of 2€, so took it home and gave it the 'special treatment'. Firstly, I put it in the freezer for a week (you can call me squeamish). Then machine washed it (spin cycle off) and dried it flat outdoors for some days. I think it was worth all the effort, as this is a wool skirt, warm and lovely to wear, and it fits me. Quality wool deserves some work!

Estaba deseando ponerme esta falda que compré de segunda mano en el mercadillo. Fue un hallazgo, enseguida me dí cuenta del color, el diseño tableado, el tejido de punto de doble capa, pero también ví enseguida que la talla era una 42, lo que me desanimó. Sin embargo, la talla no me parecía una 42 en absoluto, el punto tiene cierta elasticidad y me convencí a mi misma de darle una oportunidad porque total costaba 2€. Así que me la llevé a casa y le dí el 'tratamiento especial'. Primero, una semana en el congelador (podéis llamarme aprensiva). Luego un lavado en la lavadora, sin centrifugado, y ponerla a secar en horizontal en el balcón, durante unos días. Creo que vale la pena el esfuerzo, porque es una falda de lana de calidad, muy abrigadita y comodísima, y me va perfectamente. La lana buena se merece un poco de trabajo.

Another skirt was recently acquired, but not second-hand!, this is a new skirt by Snag. I've had problems to find bottoms in my usual second hand stalls and charities, so indulged myself with something new. I'm a happy customer (not sponsored).

Esta otra falda también ha sido una reciente adquisición, pero no es de segunda mano, ¡es Nueva!, la compré en Snag. He tenido problemas para encontrar partes de abajo en mis habituales tiendas de segunda mano, así que decidí permitirme algo nuevo. Soy una cliente contentísima (¡no patrocinada!).

Sunny Winter

The weather is still unseasonably sunny, which can look like great news, but it's also freezing in the early mornings when I go to work (before dawn, actually). Not to mention that a dry winter can become quickly a problem. Probably shocking if you're from northern and more rainy countries, but rain is a welcomed visitor here (excluding torrential rains and floods, obviously!).
However I made the most of the sunny weather and met some friends at the local terraces (it's safer and we have had 15ºC, not such a bad temperature to sit outdoors): it's lovely to have some social life.

El tiempo sigue siendo increíblemente soleado, que en principio puede parecer una buena noticia, pero también es helador por las mañanas cuando voy a trabajar (ni siquiera ha amanecido, en realidad). Además de que un invierno seco puede traer problemas rápidamente. Esto le puede chocar a la gente de países donde la lluvia se da por sentado, pero por aquí se hace desear (excepto cuando causa inundaciones, ¡claro!).
Sin embargo, a mí me ha venido bien el tiempo soleado para reunirme con amigos y sentarnos en las terrazas (es más seguro, y teniendo 15ºC tampoco es tan mala temperatura): es estupendo hacer un poco de vida social.

I made this Ottolenghi's recipe (IG) (see it here) and liked it, it's quite easy and tasty. Obviously, I took a shortcut, as I cooked the aubergines in the microwave then put them in the oven for only 10 min. I think it's a great idea to cook some aubergines in bulk and keep them in the fridge!. Next time.

Hice esta receta de Ottolenghi en IG (también aquí)y me gustó, es bastante fácil y deliciosa. Claro está, tenía que tomar un atajo, porque hice las berenjenas en el micro y luego las puse en la bandeja del horno pero sólo 10 min. Creo que es buena idea tener berenjenas hechas (en cantidad) previamente y guardarlas en el frigo. Para la próxima vez!

Winter & Red

I'm having some problems with my account, because of the supposedly safer access methods (which actually are driving me crazy). So my commenting has been even more erratic than usual (sorry for the doubled comments too!). Feeling lucky that nor my income nor my life depends on this, I'm taking it easy.
In a better mood, this is what I've worn last week. The weather has been and still is really cold (below zero every morning) but we've been walking and running errands as usual, the days are longer!.
Whatever the reason, I've worn more black and red colour these days, I think that red is a great colour to enhance black-white combos.

Tengo toda clase de problemas con el (supuestamente más seguro) acceso a mis cuentas, que me están volviendo loca. Así que siento mucho que mis comentarios sean más irregulares que de costumbre, y siento también los dobles comentarios. Me alegra no depender de ello para mi trabajo ni para nada vital, así que me lo tomo con calma.
Poniéndonos de mejor humor, ésto es lo que me puse la semana pasada. Ha hecho realmente frío, bajo cero cada mañana, pero hemos seguido saliendo a caminar y haciendo recados como siempre, los días se alargan!.
No sé porqué pero estoy poniéndome más negro y rojo estos días, supongo que porque el rojo es un buen color para realzar la combinación de blanco y negro.

My geraniums keep on blooming, even in the freezing temperatures. Braving the elements!. And we're having some delicious oranges and tangerines from the market (not locally grown, they come from the south of Spain, many miles far away). They look beautifully vitaminic too!

Estos geranios siguen floreciendo, incluso con estas temperaturas heladoras, realmente resisten todo. Y estamos teniendo unas naranjas y mandarinas deliciosas del mercado (evidentemente, no son producto local, pero son además bien coloridas y vitamínicas.

Rewear & Turquoise

This is what I wore to the office on Monday, and on Tuesday too, as I was not feeling like wearing anything different. Probably feeling uninspired. Sometimes I wear same clothes twice in a row, I'm ok with rewearing (outer) clothes. Obviously, I have not a physically exigent work, nor walk miles in these clothes. The key to rewear your clothes is layering them over washable items, like t-shirts, camisoles, tights. I have a great collection of turtle-necks and striped t-shirts which work nicely under my dresses and tunics, and they go to the laundry bin everyday (even when I wore them for a few hours!, I'm fussy about this!). I think this helps to keep my 'good' clothes in mint condition for years. Usually I let my outer clothes air out when possible, but not everybody has a balcony or backyard where hang clothes.
Do you have any tips to share?.

Esto fue lo que me puse el lunes para ir a trabajar, y también el martes, ya que no estaba de humor para cambiar. No estaba nada inspirada. A veces repito la misma ropa varias veces seguidas, no me importa que se me vea varias veces con el mismo vestido. Evidentemente, no tengo un trabajo físicamente exigente, ni voy a andar kilómetros con esta ropa. La clave para reutilizar la misma ropa es superponerla sobre camisetas, camisolas y medias, que son fáciles de lavar. Suelo tener una buena colección de cuellos vueltos y camisetas de rayas que van fenomenal bajo los vestidos y túnicas, y los echo a lavar cada día, incluso si los he llevado sólo unas horas, en ésto soy maniática. Creo que ayuda a mantener la ropa 'exterior' en buenas condiciones durante años. También sirve airear la ropa de abrigo si se puede, pero no todo el mundo tiene balcón o patio para colgar ropa.

I've had to buy a new monitor, as the old one broke down after eighteen or nineteen years (my devices last for decades!). So I've taken a photo of my new monitor on its place, my not particularly tidy table, with my notebooks and my board covered in photos. Real Life!

He tenido que comprarme una pantalla nueva, porque la anterior dejó de funcionar, después de unos dieciocho o diecinueve años (me duran décadas los dispositivos!). Así que he sacado una foto de mi nueva pantalla en su lugar, aunque la mesa no está especialmente ordenada, con cuadernos y el tablón cubierto de fotos. Vida Real.
