patchwork & blues

Finally, I wore my last patchwork dress, which has taken me ages to complete and I'm still not happy with it. Actually, it has taken me ages to give it the final touches, which I've been delaying for weeks. Then I've visited my favourite haberdasher and she advised me to add any interesting trim in the neckline, so I picked these blue pompoms!. I think that I can add another trim or lace, we shall see.

This denim jacket was purchased (second hand) some months ago and saved for spring/summer. Actually, I purchased two denim jackets and a waistcoat, like if I suddenly craved for denim in my wardrobe. I've never been a huge fan of jeans, but I like denim skirts and jackets nowadays. This jacket has paisley motives and degradé! And Real Pockets!

My photographer didn't told me that my sleeve was all wrinkled!.

My fav round sunnies have been 'out of order' for a while, they were broken!. Actually, they are cheap plastic frames (with prescription glasses!) so they were almost impossible to fix. I tryed all kind of glue and stuff which didn't worked, until I used some epoxy resin and tape (several layers of them). We shall see!
They have lasted more than expected anyway (since Aug2012)

We've visited some of our fav taverns for the first time since lockdown!. It has been so nice to see some familiar (masked) faces, even keeping our distance. Social life is all about bars and 'tabernas' here in Spain, these are the places to see your friends and acquaintances, so it has been difficult and strange for everybody. We've missed a (really elegant) lady, probably in her eighties, who we usually met in the tavern for a wine and some chatting every Saturday morning before going home to prepare the meal. We had exchanged phone numbers to stay in touch, but it has been lovely to meet her once more!.

  2. I'm not a huge fan of denim either, except for jackets and skirts! I always need to have at least one denim jacket in my wardrobe, as it's a really staple in the Summer months for me. My current jacket, which was charity shopped, has been going strong for years. The only issue is that it doesn't have pockets! I love your two-tone jacket, and I think the patchwork dress with the pom-pom trim is delightful, even if you're not entirely happy with it. So sorry to hear that those lovely sunnies have broken. Hopefully your latest fix will give them a new lease of life! I'm glad you were able to visit your favourite taverns again, which must have been one step back to normal! Besos xxx

These sunnies have been a signature accesory for years, so I've tried anything to repair them!
Actually, 'normal' is becoming so strange, but I'm glad that some social life is possible once more!

  3. I absolutely love your patchwork creation, I hope you can alter it so you feel a bit happier in it. From where I'm sitting it looks perfect!
That dip-dyed denim blazer is fabulous. What a shame about the sunnies, though.
How fantastic to get back to a bit of normality with a visit to your favourite tavern and meeting up with your stylish lady friend. xxx

    1. Glad you like it, probably I'm being overcritical. I think I'm going to enjoy my dress and wear it as much as possible!
I've missed taverns and friends (in spanish this is almost the same thing!)

  4. You are a clever old thing! The patchwork dress looks lovely and I adore the lace trim and the pom-poms at the neck. And as for the new blazer what a fabulous buy - ombre style. Loved it with the loose trousers and that very, very pretty blouse. I'm sorry to hear about your sun glasses but to have held onto them for 8 years is brilliant. I usually lose mine within weeks!

I'm so glad you can get out to the bars and tavernas again; it must give you something to look forward to at the weekend.

    Take care

    1. thank you for your comment, I'm not particularly skilled as a seamstress, but keep on trying it!
And i'm a huge fan of taverns, so if I look so happy is (probably) because of the red wine! (a glass is all I have, but it's enough for me!)
Sun glasses are such a delicate item!, I'm pretty careful!

  6. Loose fitting cotton dresses are wonderfully cool on the hottest of days, so well done you for creating your own!!
I too visited a bar for the first time last week, but we sat outside on the terrace as is the custom on a warm evening, and we all agreed we felt we had been liberated!!

  7. I have hardly any denim in my wardrobe - I even gave up my jean jacket a couple of years ago, as I just never wore it! This is a very cool version (nice that it has real pockets!). I love your patchwork dress, Monica! The pom-pom trim is perfect. I feel like the seams connecting the top to the skirt need a little something - more pom-poms?

How lovely that you were able to get out to a pub! It's so good to see the regulars, isn't it?

    1. Not a huge fan of denim myself, but I still like some 'interesting' pieces!. I knew you'd appreciate these real pockets!
I've also considered to add a trim or lace to these seams, great idea!
Totally agree that it's Good to see the regulars!, social life is important!

  8. Those blues really suit you! Pompoms always make me think of Vix - they're a really fun touch on the neckline of your dress.

Aaaaah Spanish bars! I love them. Such a happy and sociable way of living.

  9. I like the two-tone denim jacket. I have several pairs of denim jeans that I've added things to like sewn-on patches, painted numbers, stars, etc. I like denim, but just not plain denim!

It's nice to hear you are able to go out to a local taverna. I haven't been to Spain, but I have been to a Spanish Tapas restaurant in New York city that I loved (with a friend who is from Spain, so I assumed she would know that it was good), and one in Toronto when I went to see Cher with my friend and we both enjoyed it.
