summer & birthday

I've celebrated my birthday last week, and this is one of the reasons why I took a break for some days. My 50th birthday, actually. This is half a century, darlings, which usually involves to reach a certain maturity level. Only that I'm not a sherry. So I'm going to keep on doing my business and being myself as strongly as possible!.
I've been relaxing at home most of the time as it's too hot to be outside in the evenings. But I've enjoyed some walks and fun in the mornings, and even remembered to take some photos!.

- gingham top, sewed by me, some time ago / blusa de tela vichy, costura casera, de hace un tiempo
- skirt, made of a strapless dress (second hand) old / falda, hecha con un vestido sin tirantes.
- sandals, Chiruca outlet (old) / sandalias Chiruca
- bag, bought retail 15-20 years ago (and my default travel bag for summer) / bolso, comprado en una tiendita hace unos 15 ó 20 años (y el bolso que llevo siempre de viaje en verano)
- necklace, Dayaday (old) / collar
- mask, by Nonapapallona, local designer! / mascarilla, de Nonapapallona, diseñadora local.

Some of my birthday presents: books and a necklace. The Day of the Book was not celebrated on 23 April, so they have moved it onto 23 July, My Birthday (more reasons to celebrate!). On this day, a small bottle of wine was given as a present when buying a book, in every book shop. We live in a wine producing region (La Rioja), so there is some wine involved in every event, whatever its theme (without even considering that some people don't like wine actually or don't drink any alcohol). Same happens with food, as vegetarian/vegan options are rarely provided (even if things are improving quickly!).

This is my last second hand purchase, another dress which I'm dismantled yet. But I still have not decided if it's going to be a skirt or another franken-dress. Both options look appealing to me, but it's so much easier to sew a skirt, just cutting and then adding an elasticated waist!

Hope you're keeping yourselves safe and as fabulous as possible!

I love Bill Bryson. He was one of my Dad's favourite writers, too.

  2. Congratulations on your milestone birthday, Beate, and I'm seconding Vix in welcoming you to the fab 50s! You're looking as gorgeous as ever on your morning walk, including your mask! We now have to wear one as soon as we leave the house as well. Better start a mask wardrobe then :-) Love your birthday presents. I have read quite a few of Bill Bryson's books. Can't wait to see what you'll be turning that dress in to. Besos xxx

    1. Thank you, darling!, but I think you've mistaken me for Beate! ;DD I'm Mónica!
I feel safer if everybody is wearing a mask, but can't understand why we have to wear it if walking alone in the middle of nowhere!. Probably because of the stupid people who can't do the right thing by themselves and have to be forced to.
My sewing projects are taking ages actually, I don't feel like sewing in this heat!

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! welcome to the 50s club! :) I'll be 53 in a couple of months.

What lovely gifts, and I love the idea of wine when you get a book - how civilized! Riojas used to be some of my favourite wines (I stopped drinking just over 2.5 years ago). They are so delicious.

Whatever you do do with your skirt, I know it's going to be awesome! Your hairdo is fabulous here, by the way.

    1. Thank you, dear Sheila, I'm happy to be in such a fab company!
Glad you like this idea of wine, it's quite a mediterranean attitude actually. I'm still enjoying a glass of wine occasionally, but don't feel like embracing this 'wine culture' all the time. It feels a little bit overwhelming sometimes!
I've noticed that my hair looks better when I give up on it. Actually, I never combe it! (beauty secrets revealed!) ;DD
      besos
