winter is for (colourful) scarves

We had some warm days last week, but the Real Winter Weather has reared its head now. So we're having some crispy freezing mornings becoming sunny days, which I kind of like. Actually, we're below zero every morning and around 8ºC maximum when sun is high, but it's quite bearable as it's not windy nor wet. Really good weather for walking (and days are a little bit longer!)
My mom bought me this massive scarf and I'm loving it. First time in ages that I have something New (retail!). It's a versatile piece that enhances every colour!. I'm a huge fan of scarves and wear them the whole year round, even if obviously I make the most of them in the winter. I think that there's no reason to wear boring scarves, whatever your style. Some of my favourite ones are vintage, as the quality is so much better. And I always have a look at the scarves in the charity shops (you can find treasures!).

Tuvimos unos días muy templados la semana pasada, pero el Invierno De Verdad ya está asomándose y ahora estamos teniendo unas mañanas heladoras que se convierten en días soleados. Casi que me gusta. En realidad, estamos bajo cero cada mañana y luego como mucho a 8ºC a pleno sol, pero se lleva bien porque ni hace viento ni hay humedad. Un tiempo buenísimo para salir a caminar, por ejemplo, y los días se van alargando.
Este pañuelo tan enorme fue un regalo de mi mamá. Hacía mucho tiempo que no tenía un accesorio comprado Nuevo (es de una tienda local). Está resultando muy versátil y va casi con cualquier color, así que genial. Me encantan los pañuelos y chales, los llevo todo el año, pero evidentemente en invierno les saco más partido. Creo que no hay razón para llevar pañuelos o bufandas aburridas, cualquiera que sea tu estilo. Mis favoritos suelen ser los pañuelos vintage, tienen una calidad muchísimo mejor. Así que siempre echo una ojeada a los pañuelos y chales en las tiendas solidarias y de segunda mano, ¡hay Tesoros!

urban walks

Last week was a relaxing week. We made the most of the unseasonably warm weather, went for some walks and ran errands, totally our kind of fun. We usually avoid the commercial streets and prefer to visit the retailers around the market, so the shopping frenzy didn't bother us. We shop our coffee in a local cafetería where they toast it almost everyday, our tea in another small shop around the corner, our groceries in the market and even our sneakers in a local shop which sells outlets, and everything is closer than it would be at a supermarket (and it's really more practical and quicker, not only a pleasant shopping experience). I feel really lucky to have these things at a 15min. walking distance from home, this is my kind of luxury!

La semana pasada fue muy tranquila, y aprovechamos que el tiempo era increíblemente bueno para salir mucho, dar paseos y hacer recados, totalmente en nuestra línea habitual. Solemos evitar las calles comerciales y preferimos visitar tiendas más pequeñas alrededor del mercado, así que no nos está afectando el frenesí de compras de estas fechas. El café viene de una cafetería donde lo tuestan casi todos los días, el té de otra tiendecita a la vuelta de la esquina, las verduras del mercado e incluso las zapatillas las compramos en una tienda local que vende restos, y todo esto está más cerca que en un supermercado (y también es más práctico y rápido, no sólo más agradable!). Me siento afortunada de tener todo a 15 minutos andando, ésto sí que es lujo.

The storks are back in their nests near the river!. This structure was build to support their nesting and keep them away from overpopulated old buildings' roofs. Some time ago, I read about some storks' nests that had to be removed to repair a cathedral, as sometimes they are dangerously massive and heavy. The biologists who studied them found pieces of 16th century parchment and paper, so the nests had been used for generations of storks through the centuries. (Don't worry, some new nesting places were provided!). Isn't it amazing?

Las cigüeñas están de vuelta en sus 'apartamentos' cerca del río. Estas estructuras sirven para que aniden, y así no sobrecargan los viejos tejados. Hace tiempo leí que habían retirado unos nidos de cigüeña de una catedral por obras, ya que eran un peligro por el tamaño y el peso que tenían, y los estudiosos encontraron entre los materiales del nido algunos trozos de pergamino y papel del siglo XVI, así que estos nidos han estado en uso generaciones y generaciones a través de los siglos. Me pareció muy curioso.

Noche de Reyes

We celebrated Twelfth Night (with a simple dinner) in our finery. Never miss a chance to dress up!
I don't care too much about new year, nor make any special resolutions, but wish you luck if you've made some!. Hope you've enjoyed your holidays!

En la noche de reyes no hicimos más celebración que una cena sencilla, pero nos vestimos para la ocasión. No hay que desaprovechar las oportunidades!.
El año nuevo y el hacer resoluciones especialmente ahora no me van nada, pero os deseo suerte si habéis hecho alguna. Y espero que os hayáis divertido en vacaciones!

Winter Holidays

It has been a long long holiday and I took a step back from computers, so totally neglected my blogging (again!). Too busy as we had visitors at home for the first time in ages. My parents stayed with us for some days, after we took every possible precaution (everybody is fully vaccinated and tested). We decided to keep it simple and cancelled any family gathering. Anyway we're still worried about the increasing number of cases, but hoping this is not going to last for a long time.
The weather has changed from freezing fog to unseasonably warm and even sunny. Totally a mood booster, not only because of the sunshine itself, but also because of some mundane tasks, such as air drying the laundry!. Real Life!.
Obviously, we've made the most of the sunny days!. We've gone for walks, ran errands and had appetizers (pintxos) almost everyday, but managed to avoid crowds.

Me he tomado unas vacaciones bastante largas y lejos del ordenador, así que he dejado el blog abandonado (otra vez!). Pero es que estaba ocupada, con visitas en casa después de muchísimo tiempo. Mis padres se han quedado unos días, hemos tomado todas las precauciones posibles (todo el mundo está vacunado y ha pasado pruebas) y no ha habido más reuniones familiares. Seguimos con muchísimos casos, así que es preocupante, aunque espero que no dure.
El tiempo ha cambiado de niebla helada a increíblemente bueno para esta época del año. Siempre anima ver el sol, y además es una alegría poder secar la colada al aire por fin, viéndolo desde un punto de vista más prosaico.
Claro está, hemos aprovechado estos días soleados, hemos paseado, hecho recados por la ciudad y también hemos salido a tomar pintxos casi cada día (siempre muy tranquilos y evitando las multitudes!)

Some simple appetizers we had at home. Slices of pear and some blue cheese and goat cheese over rye crispbread. And some chicory boats!, some of them filled with chicken breast marinated, other ones filled with vegetable spreads. Not very different from usual at Chez Allnut! ;DD

Unos cuantos aperitivos que tomamos en casa, bastante fáciles. Biscotes de centeno con pera y queso azul o queso de cabra. Y unas hojas de endivia con rellenos variados, pechuga de pollo marinada, y algunos untables. No muy diferente de lo normal en Chez Allnut. ;DD
