transitional & unflattering

I think that, as a middle aged woman, I'm (old) expert enough to know what's unflattering on my shape, so, when I picked these pants and dress, I was conscious of the fact that so much volume in my mid section is not flattering anyway. It would be better to wear this dress over leggings, or to wear these pants and a shorter top. But sometimes I want to wear something different, I want to mix some prints, wear a dress over wide leg pants, whatever!. It's not always the most flattering outfit which finally hits the road!

There's also a weather issue involved in this outfit, something like 'How to keep on wearing your summer clothes when weather is not being collaborative?'. Well, I'll share my (totally surprising) tip: layers!, lots of them!. I worn a big shawl-scarf over summery clothes, in a chilly morning (12ºC/53ºF) and I walked to work feeling very comfortable and warm. If weather keeps on playing this game, I would wear my winter jackets over sundresses, tights with my sandals, and would mix lots of seasonal pieces!. Probably it would still be some hot days, but autumn is coming!

Creo que, siendo una mujer madura, y debería ser suficientemente vieja experta para saber qué es lo que no favorece a mi figura, así que, cuando escogí estos pantalones y este vestido, fuí perfectamente consciente de que tanto volumen en mi parte más ancha no me favorece en absoluto. Hubiera quedado mejor el vestido sobre unos leggings, o los pantalones con una blusa corta y entallada. Pero a veces me apetece algo diferente, mezclar estampados, ponerme un vestido sobre unos pantalones anchos, lo que sea. Así que no siempre es la opción más 'favorecedora' la que acaba triunfando.
También está el asunto climático, que podría titularse: ¿Cómo seguir llevando ropa de verano cuando el tiempo no acompaña?. Bueno, yo tengo mi truco (totalmente nuevo y sorprendente!): capas y capas superpuestas!. Me eché esta enorme bufa-manta por encima de mi ropa de verano, en una mañana bien fresquita (12ºC) y me eché a la calle tan cómoda y a gusto. Si el tiempo sigue jugando a este juego, me voy a poner chaquetas de invierno encima de vestidos ligeros, medias con sandalias y montones de otras mezclas estacionales. Seguramente queden todavía días de calor, pero el otoño ya está cerca!

mixing prints & office

This is what I worn to go to work on Friday, when it was really hot (37ºC/100ºF) , but a shirt/jacket was required due to the air conditioning. Dressing up to go to the office could be tricky when temperatures rise!. I'm a huge fan of comfort, so light fabrics and pyjama-like pants are some of my favorites. I even shortened this pants, to make them more summery, and it's shocking how this little change has made them more cooling. When layering clothes are not suitable, I like to add layers of accessories: necklaces and pendants, bangles, big earrings!. These earrings were a present by Mr.A. twenty four years ago, so they've become vintage!.
I know that my office attire could not be considered 'appropriate', but there's nothing like a dress code in my environment, and most of the people dress in a very relaxed style, clamdiggers or shorts and sandals, 'weather appropriate'!!. I'm glad that I could wear whatever I like!

Esto es lo que me puse para ir a trabajar el viernes, cuando hacía mucho calor (37ºC), aunque, como podéis ver, también llevaba esta camisa/chaqueta por el aire acondicionado. Vestirse para ir a la oficina puede resultar complicado cuando la temperatura sube. Siempre prefiero el confort, así que las telas ligeras y los pantalones pijama son de mis favoritos. Y además, acorté estos pantalones, para hacerlos más veraniegos, y es sorprendente cómo quitándoles ese poco de tela ya resultan más frescos.
Cuando las superposiciones de ropa no convienen, me gusta añadir capas de accesorios: collares y colgantes, pulseras, pendientes grandes!. Estos pendientes me los regaló Mr.A. hace unos veinticuatro años, así que ya son vintage!
Ya sé que lo que llevo puede que no sea lo que considera apropiado para la oficina, pero no hay nada ni parecido a normas de vestuario en mis alrededores, y la mayoría de la gente se viste muy relajadamente, en pantalón corto o bermudas y sandalias, más bien 'apropiado al clima'. Me alegra poder llevar lo que me guste!

why I've stopped dying my hair

I've stopped dying my hair for the moment (didn't do it since June!), as it's a waste of time (and money) to do it in the summer, when my hair color fades quickly due to sun and chlorine (and sea water, if I'm lucky enough!). I'm used to go to the swimming pool several times a week, so taking care of my (colored) hair seems like too much effort. There's still a touch of reddish color on my bangs, but it will not last forever!. I'm thinking about quitting dying my hair, even if I would miss my red fringe. I'll decide on this in October!

He dejado de teñirme el pelo por el momento (desde Junio ya!), ya que me parece una pérdida de tiempo (y de dinero) hacerlo en verano, cuando el color se degrada rápidamente por culpa del sol, del cloro (y del mar si tengo suerte). Suelo ir a la piscina varias veces por semana, así que estar teniendo cuidado del pelo me parece demasiado esfuerzo. Aún tengo un toque rojizo en el flequillo, pero ya no me durará mucho más. Creo que voy a plantearme abandonar el tinte, incluso aunque eche de menos mi flequillo rojo. Ya lo decidiré en Octubre.

kinda athleisure

This is what I worn some days ago, when weather was quite chilly. I had to look for any closed-toe shoe in my actual wardrobe, and all I found was a pair of trainers (The pair of trainers, indeed). It was not that bad, because my plans didn't include any glamourous event, but lots of walking. So I picked an outfit to go with my shoes, a pair of pants and a denim jacket, and obviously, some accessories.
I'm not used to wear my trainers in a city environment, except for long walks through city parks, but I think this kind of (accessorized) athleisure looks like my kind of comfy style with a twist.

Esto es lo que me puse hace unos días, cuando el tiempo estaba más fresco. Tuve que buscar unos zapatos cerrados entre lo disponible en mi armario, y lo único que encontré fue un par de zapatillas (El par de zapatillas, en realidad). Tampoco está tan mal, porque no tenía planes muy glamurosos, más bien mucho caminar. Así que todo lo demás lo elegí para combinar con las zapatillas, unos pantalones y una cazadora vaquera, y, claro está, accesorios.
No suelo llevar deportivas para andar normalmente por la ciudad, excepto cuando salgo a caminar por los parques, pero creo que este tipo de 'athleisure' con accesorios cumple con mi gusto por lo cómodo sin perder personalidad.
