orange is the new orange

Even if Halloween is not a traditional holiday here, it has become a popular celebration (welcome to globalisation!). So I've taken it as an (unneccesary) excuse to wear orange colour. I know this is not a crowd-pleasing colour, and many people consider it gaudy and only suitable for Halloween costumes. Not my opinion, anyway. It is one of my favourite colours, so it has been easy to pick an orange piece and create some outfits around it.
This skirt is one of the first clothes I sew ever, ten years ago, so it has been in my wardrobe since the very beginning of this blog. I've even made a flashback on it. Obviously, an orange skirt can be styled in a limited number of colour combos, but this happens whatever the colour involved. There are some 'safer' combos, which are created around the colours of the print, (black and white, grey) and there are the less obvious ones, with constrasting colours in a similar saturation (purple, red).
Do you prefer some matchiness or more contrast?

  1. Well, the skirt looked fantastic with both colour combinations. I wouldn't have thought about trying red with orange but I will now! I think the darker red top you wore was just right and then you echoed the red again in the sneakers. Black, white and orange is just a totally fabulous mix.

    Have a good week, too.

  2. I don't need an excuse to wear orange either and certainly don't think it's a gaudy colour!
That skirt is an absolute stunner and I love both ways you styled it. I love both matchy-matchy and contrasting colours, although there's always at least "secret matching" going on :-) The striped red top with the skirt is a prime example of pattern mixing! Loving that stunning photo at the end of your post! Besos xxx

  6. I rarely wear orange but I like the pattern on your skirt which makes the colour less "Halloween" if worn with black. Orange also looks good with grey and blue too. Halloween is a big deal over here in North America and I decorate my front porch and my desk at work for the month of October. It is my favourite holiday.

    1. I think that this skirt has an 'oriental' vibe which makes it more interesting and less Halloween.
Most children are enthusiastically involved into Halloween, creating decorations and wearing costumes, but not so many adults take part in this celebration. It's not really traditional, so it looks a little bit strained.

  7. Orange is a great colour. I'd wear it with black or green, but I like it in all sorts of combinations - when I think of my favourite bloggers, I can imagine some in particular combos. I can imagine Ann pairinmg it with turquoise, for example.
