new dress & old ways

This maxi dress was bought some time ago at eBay (second hand, obviously), but haven't worn it until last week. I'm happy with the colours and print, but the motives are not aligned, which means that it always look distorted. This optical effect annoys me. And it's also the cold shoulder top, which doesn't flatter me, as shapeless fabric hanging at my sides is not what I like. So I'm considering a total revamp, including redoing the top and centering the print, or simply giving up and donating it.
Anyway, I've worn my new-to-me dress twice in a row, and it has blended into my wardrobe nicely, as it matches almost everything I already have in black and white, pink, turquoise or green. So it's totally into my comfort zone, which makes me feel a little blah. It's not that I want a total change, but a challenging item is welcome once in a while. I'm missing my visits to charities and street markets!

  1. yes - the pattern/print style and colors are total you!!
love it with the pinstripe coat especially.
maybe the challenge is to make a revamp - i would turn it upsidedown - using one of the arched designs for a "bib" of a tunic..... exactly centered of cause ;-D
this blue sunglasses are extremely cool!! <3

  3. That dress is fabulous and very you! It really does fit magnificently into your wardrobe, so I'm sure it will be worth it trying to revamp it rather than donate it. Patterns not being aligned do bother me too, and I'm absolutely no fan of "cold shoulder" dresses or tops. I even hate the expression ;-) But I'm definitely loving how you winterized the dress, and like both our dear friends Beate and Vix, I'm particularly enamoured by the outfit with the pin stripes! 4. I understand what you're saying about the alignment-it would drive me mad as well. It does really look great with the stripes though. I miss the shops as well. Online shopping is never going to be as satisfying.

    1. Those not-aligned prints totally annoy me!. But you can only notice this kind of details when thrifting in a shop, where you can touch and see the things properly!

  5. It's a lovely dress and if you do revamp it at least you have the skills to do it...I really like it with the pin striped coat. I love that coat! I miss the charity shops, too; hopefully it won't be too long now and goodness knows what treasures we'll find?

    Take care

  6. I like the colours in the dress, and it looks really nice with the striped jacket layered over it. I despise those "cold shoulder" tops and dresses - they look weird on everyone.

    1. Lovely that you like it, dear Shelley!. And totally agree about the cold shoulder, particularly this one is such a stupid design!. It adds volume in all the wrong places!

  7. I love this beautiful maxi dress on you, Monica, and can't see where it doesn't line up. But that would drive me crazy too, so if it's bugging you, then yes, you should definitely play around with it until you get something that works for you entirely.

I hope you can live vicariously through me - I had quite a haul yesterday on a major thrifting expedition.

  8. I can see how the print not lining up would annoy you; it's the sort of thing I'd get really wound up by too. I hope you'll be able to remodel the dress.
