I've been wearing my new-to-me shearling coat (a lot) and realized that is actually such an statement piece. The moment I put on it I feel like saying 'Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up'* . It's not that I don't like a classy piece which makes me feel like Madame la Marquise. Actually I do love it, but in my opinion it's asking for some colourfulness and my own ironic twist. I think that (almost) any posh and elegant second-hand piece could find its way into a modern wardrobe. Obviously, it's easier if you're doing a vintage style with lots of attitude, but it's not necessary!. Any style can incorporate a classy second-hand piece as I'm concerned!

Me estoy poniendo un montón mi abrigo de piel vuelta (de segunda mano) y me he dado cuenta de que es una prenda de mucha importancia. En cuanto me la pongo, dan ganas de decir 'estoy lista para mi escena, Señor DeMille' (ya sabéis, como en Sunset Boulevard). No es que no me guste un abrigo elegante que me haga sentir como una marquesona. En realidad, me encanta. Pero me parece que está pidiendo a gritos colorido y un toque de ironía. Creo que (casi) cualquier prenda elegante y sofisticada de segunda mano puede incorporarse a un armario moderno. Evidentemente, será más fácil si tu estilo ya es vintage totalmente, pero no hace falta. En mi opinión, en cualquier estilo cabe una pieza clásica de segunda mano!

pink is punk

Making the most of sunny weather, I've been wearing this light wool coat and my pink sneakers. I started with a more conventional outfit (pants) to go for a walk through the city parks and then changed into something more colorful, a skirt and my crochet cardi. This makes me think about how my style has evolved, as I had very strong opinions on wearing midi skirts with sneakers and I hated pink color for almost all my life. It has been a big R-evolution!

Aprovechando estos días soleados, me he puesto un abrigo de paño ligero y mis zapatillas rosas. Empecé de una manera convencional, con pantalón, para ir a dar un paseo por los parques de la ciudad, y luego me cambié a algo más colorido, con falda y esta chaqueta de ganchillo. Esto me hace pensar en cuánto ha cambiado mi estilo, porque yo tenía unas opiniones muy claras acerca de las faldas a media pierna con zapatillas deportivas y además, he odiado el rosa durante casi toda mi vida. Así que ha habido una gran r-evolución!

shearling & tweed

Once more, I break my own rules. I had challenged myself to stop buying any clothes, however I bought this second hand shearling coat to replace an old one that I had for ages. Actually I've had some shearling coats and they were always second hand purchases, sometimes battered and usually not my size. The first one came from my parents' storage room, a coat that my dad wore in the 70's and that he passed me by with love. It was massive and fitted badly, but I felt like a million dollars!. The same happened to other leather or shearling coats I had, they were men's coats and fitted badly too, but without the coolness!. Finally I have treated myself with a shearling coat which fits me properly!
I wore my coat in a chilly morning (5ºC / 41ºF) and felt toasty even if I was wearing just a viscose turtleneck. I'm a huge fan of viscose but it's not the warmest fabric ever!. Anyway, I prefer my turtlenecks in viscose due to their softness and not clinginess. Obviously I don't live in a northern country, so barely need thermal layers.
My bracelets were recently purchased when visited Animal Welfare Association's charity market with a friend and bijouterie stall caught our eyes. I'm also wearing for the first time this crochet beret, so I'm showing lots of new stuff!

De nuevo, rompiendo mis propias reglas, porque me había comprometido a parar de comprar ropa. Sin embargo, me he comprado este abrigo de piel vuelta para reemplazar otro que tenía hace años. En realidad, he tenido varios abrigos así, siempre de segunda mano, a veces bastante usados y ni siquiera de mi talla. El primero vino del trastero de mis padres y era un abrigo que llevaba mi padre en los 70 (muy molón) y que me pasó con mucho gusto. Me quedaba enorme y me sentaba bastante mal, pero yo me sentía estupenda. Lo mismo pasó con otros abrigos de cuero o piel vuelta que he tenido, eran abrigos de hombre que me quedaban raro, y no me hacían sentir estupenda en absoluto. Finalmente he conseguido un abrigo de piel vuelta a mi medida, por fin.
Me puse el abrigo en una mañana fresquita (5ºC) y la verdad es que iba abrigadísima incluso aunque no llevase más que un cuello vuelto de viscosa. Me encanta la viscosa pero no es que sea un tejido calentito. De todos modos, prefiero los cuellos vueltos de este material, porque son suaves y fluídos, no se pegan. Evidentemente, tampoco vivo tan al norte, así que rara vez necesito ponerme ropa térmica.
Mis pulseras son una reciente adquisición del mercadillo solidario de la protectora de animales local, donde fui con una amiga y las dos hicimos compras de bisutería, que era muy atrayente. También estreno esta boina de ganchillo, así que en realidad llevo muchas cosas nuevas!

crochet & colorful

We have had some sunny yet chilly days, with frosty mornings and a cold breeze even in the sunny midday. So I've been enjoying the sunshine and wearing a colorful maxi dress under my (boring) puffer coat!
This dress was purchased last year at eBay with two other dresses and a top in a combined postage. It was a lucky find, as everything fitted me (the top needed minor adjustments) and was totally my style. This is one of the reasons I've always liked eBay, because I can look for whatever I want in whatever color, In My Size!. So I browse only what I'm interested in. However, it lacks the adventurous feeling of rummaging in a charity shop or finding a second hand shop that I didn't know about.
On this same note, I've payed some visits to the local Animal Welfare Association's charity market which has been open the whole month. My friend M. and I made some purchases in the bijouterie stall. Not that we need more bijouterie, but who can resists those shiny trinkets!

Hemos tenido unos días soleados y fríos, con mañanas de escarcha y un vientecillo fresco incluso al mediodía en el sol. Así que he estado disfrutando de estos momentos de luz y llevando un vestido largo con mucho colorido debajo de mi (aburrido) abrigo acolchado.
Este vestido lo compré el año pasado en eBay, junto con otros dos vestidos y una blusita en un paquete combinado. Fue un encuentro afortunado, porque todo me valía (el top necesitó un pequeño ajuste) y era de mi estilo. Esta es una de las razones por las que me gusta eBay, porque puedes buscar lo que quieras, en el color que quieras y en Tu Talla!. Así que buscas sólo en lo que te interesa. Sin embargo, le falta el sentido de aventura de las búsquedas en las tiendas solidarias o el encontrar una tienda de segunda mano que no conocías!
Hablando de esto mismo, he visitado varias veces el mercadillo de la Protectora de Animales local, que ha estado abierto el mes entero. Mi amiga M. y yo hemos hecho unas cuantas compras de bisutería. No es que nos haga falta, pero quién se puede resistir a todas esas cositas brillantes!?
