urban walks

As we're still not allowed to go outside the city, we have to keep on walking the same old paths. And due to the lockdown having been extended to non-essential shops, bars and restaurants, city parks are considerably more crowded now. We've noticed more and more people walking (and cycling) since cafés and bars are closed. So our usual walks through city parks are becoming less appealing, and we're staying at home more time.
But I'm trying to keep my mood high and myself busy, reading and cooking and crafting. And I'm taking photos (almost) everytime we go out, and picking any interesting background to add some local atmosphere. I always enjoy when you share photos of your neighbourhoods and lifestyle, so I'm totally doing the same thing and hoping that you enjoy it too!.

This is the former 'Main Street' of the city. Nowadays it's a quiet street with many interesting façades but no business at all, except this posh elegant hotel behind me which occupies a baroque palace and some adjacent buildings. I couldn't find any touristic info to share about this (in english), sorry!

Esta es la antigua Calle Mayor de la ciudad, que hoy en día sigue teniendo algunos edificios muy bonitos pero ningún negocio, excepto este hotel tan elegante que tengo detrás y que antiguamente fue un palacete barroco.

This is the door of the old city walls, built (quite 'recently') in the 16th century (You can see more photos here)
Most spanish cities have roman foundations, if no older, so anything after 1500 is considered 'quite modern'. Same happens in other countries around!.

Hope you're keeping yourselves safe and as fabulous as possible.
Espero que sigáis todo lo estupendamente que sea posible.

    1. Thank you, Goody. This is a beautiful city indeed, even if most people don't notice it, nor appreaciate it actually (people prefer anything 'modern' and new).
Hope you're having a good week.

  3. Hello I’ve just popped over after seeing you on Vix’s blog reading list. It’s lovely to see your colourful clothing. I do love a good mash up of colours and textures and your outfits over your blog posts are fabulous. Have you got a massive drawer of coloured tights like me heehee.
I’m in Lancashire Uk and we seem to have the same restrictions as you. Me and hubby are quite happy at home but miss seeing friends and family and going out for meals.
Take care and lovely to meet I you

  4. We have noticed it's been a lot busier in our city parks too. We are free to travel within Belgium, but we usually stay local anyway.
I loved joining you on your city walk. Those old city walls are amazing! As are your usual colourful outfits.
Love that funky made-by-you dress and those raspberry pie Snag tights look good enough to eat :-) xxx

    1. We have been confined into our region for months, and still the number of cases is increasing, so probably people are not keeping themselves local nor even careful.
Glad that the city walls are being so appreciated!, they're so picturesque.
I love so much this raspberry colour that I bought another pair of tights! ;DD

  6. love your me-made pop art dresses! i have a weekness for big scale patterns/prints...... very cool outfits!
thanx for the interesting backgrounds - i see a lot of sandstone used - is that the local stone in your area? i ask because our little mountains are sandstone entirely.....
sorry that your parks are overcrowded now. it can be awful. we had this in summer when all the german vacation people came here instead of going to the mediterranean beaches ;-D
maybe you can find a way to avoid the masses and still have some walks and fresh air.
    stay safe and sane! xxxxx

    1. Thanks! I also love geometric prints and massive pop art motives!
This is actually our local stone and it has a distinctive golden colour, but it doesn't resist rain and wind erosion so well- many relieves and sculptures look really eroded.
We had a quiet summer, and most local businesses missed tourism, which is an important source of incomes!. I dislike that tourism has become so invasive everywhere. It's nice to have visitors but not this way.
Actually, I'm exploring more hidden paths around my neighbourhood.
      besos

  7. Ooh, I love your pink outfit SO much! That dress is amazing, as is the second one. I love seeing little bits of your town, Monica! Nothing in my city is older than the last 1800s! So to see something from the 1600s called "modern"?? ha ha!

    1. I'm becoming a pink lover! ;DD Lovely comment and lovely that you like these dresses.
Totally agree that 'modern' is quite a relative concept. But it's sad when nobody appreciates anything if it's just a hundred years old (snobbish attitude!).

  8. If you can't leave your city, it's nice that you live in one with interesting places to walk. There is nothing old (at least nothing older than the late 1800's) in my city and when the streets are deserted, as they are now, they are even less appealing. That was one of the things I appreciated most during my trips to the UK and France - the historical buildings still being used and kept up. I haven't left my city since November, 2019, and I can't wait until I can travel again.

    1. Dear Shelley, thanks for your comments. I also love that historical buildings are still used and part of urban life, so the cities have coherence and continuity through time, I like the feeling of History being alive.
Nowadays, even an excursion to a nearby village looks like a Great Adventure!. I only can hope we can travel again this year.
      besos
