crazy crochet & sunshine

*
Nowadays everybody has been recommended to stay at home if possible, so we are keeping ourselves and others safe by avoiding unnecessary interactions. Glad we live in a really quiet area, we can walk miles without having to cross paths with a human being, so we can still go for a walk through green spaces. So we're not going to languish in our flat because of the lack of fresh air and exercise.
But I'm so sorry not only for the people who are ill and their families, but also for all the people whose economy is going to suffer, particularly those whose income depend on temporary jobs or own a small business.

However, I don't want to join the catastrophic voices. I'm here to bring some sunshine and pics of the clothes I wore and cheered me up. Some days ago, I wore this massive cardi/coat in orange and mustard colors that I recently crocheted. Actually it took me just a few hours, as you can imagine because of its thick wool; a single row has the width of my hand!. And it's delightfully soft and warm, like wearing a cosy blanket!.
I watched this tutorial for inspiration, but didn't follow it totally.

Hope all of you are ok and keeping your mood up (if possible).

- shirt, it was a white shirt (see it here) which I dyed orange and then drawed on it using a fabric marker (not very visible in pics) / camisa, era una camisa blanca (véase aquí), que teñí de naranja y luego dibujé encima con un rotulador para tela (no es muy visible en foto)
- scarf, charity market (old) / pañuelo, de un mercadillo solidario
- sporty shoes, Elementérre outlet (old) / zapatos deportivos
- handbag, a present by my mom (old) / bolso, un regalo de mi madre

As a note, I didn't crochet every row in one color, tried a more 'rustic' look.

Como observación, no hice cada vuelta entera en un color, quería un estilo más 'rústico'.

  1. I've been reading about the situation in Spain. How dreadful, Monica! We can still go outside but people are recommended not to make any unnecessary journeys. Hope it doesn't come to that in Belgium, as I really wouldn't know what to do about work. I have no possibility to work from home, and as I'm the only employee except for my colleague who only works part-time and cannot do my job, if I cannot work, there will be no job left to go back to. It's hard to stay positive, knowing this comes on top of the health worries. My husband is in his early 70s, which means he is at risk if he gets the virus. I'm trying to distract myself by wearing colourful clothes too - and blog about them or post them on Instagram - but I keep getting panic attacks. But enough about that: I'm totally in love with that rustic crocheted cardigan. In fact, your whole outfit, from your African wax cotton trousers to your hand dyed shirt, managed to put a welcome smile on my face! Mil besos, Monica, and keep safe! xxx

  2. Oh wow, how wonderful is that knitted jacket Monica! I recall knitting a mini skirt with huge needles that resembled this kind of stitching - I was 13 and thought I was the bees knees when I went out in it. You look a glorious sight in all of those brilliant colours. Fabulous xxx

  3. Monica, I just love your crocheted jacket! The colours, and giant stitches make it such a cool piece. I am so sorry to hear about the situation in Spain and Italy. Some things are closing down over here, but it is nothing compared to what you are going through over there. Stay healthy and keep being creative!

    1. The situation changes from day to day!. We were not particularly worried on Friday as only cinemas and theatres were closing. Then government declared a state of alert on Saturday, which is serious business!. Containment measures can last a month!

  4. Monica, the cardigan is fab, fab, fab! It looks wonderful on you; I love the trousers, shirt and fab shoes and you're wearing orange socks/tights; so beautifully co ordinated. It's funny, when I saw the cardigan post on IG it looked so tiny like a doll's cardigan; but then I saw you wearing it! The colours are lovely. You should call it the 'Sunshine' cardigan!

I would go completely mad if I couldn't get out for a walk in the fresh air so I hope you still can; despite the dire situation in Spain.

    1. Glad that you liked it, I also thought that it looked like a doll's cardi when I saw the pic! so funny!.
Now I can't go for a walk, it would be considered unsupportive and even an offense!. You only can go out to the supermarket or groceries shop or to do something really important. We have to be careful!

  5. That cardigan is the best thing I've read about all week! Thanks for the link, I'd love to make my own - if we're to abide by today's government's suggestion to socially isolate I'll be needing a few projects to keep me sane - that's if the wool shop hasn't shut down already.
I'm glad that you're still able to go out for a walk. I'd go mad if I was trapped inside however "dangerous" the risk was to my health! xxx

  6. Working my way backwards, and feeling bad that you mostly have to stay in now. Your cardigan is magnificent!!! I crochet, so I can imagine how unwieldy it must have been to make that (although, wow, it must have been fast!). I love it, even the gigantic button! So fun.
