wearing old & new clothes

Most of my clothes have been in my wardrobe for years, some of them for five to ten years, which could be considered 'old' and 'dated' in fashion industry standards (there are even some clothes living in my wardrobe for twenty or thirty years which I consider my homegrown vintage). I have no problems in wearing same old clothes if they still tickle my fancy and I've realized that many of them can be worn in multiple ways, mixed and matched, reinvented!. This white linen pants are really old, but I have not any reason to look for a substitute, and this beach dress has become a favorite layering piece which gives a twist to any outfit!
And I'm getting the most out of my new tunic and enjoying its joyful qualities!. I think it's going to become a frequent visitor here. I'm even thinking on sewing something similar using some fabric leftovers, some kind of patchwork tunic, won't it be delightfully kitsch?!!
Linking Visible Monday and wishing you a visible week!.

joyful tunic & evening walk

Last week I saw this tunic in a shop window and the next moment I was trying it and taking out the credit card. You can call it an impulse purchase, but I felt like 'it has my name written all over it' and never regretted. I believe in fate! (not really, only for illustrative purposes!). This has been a big expense for a small budget like mine and totally out of my plans to reduce consumerism. It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I've been buying mostly second hand and I'd like to keep it this way.
I thought that it will take ages until temperatures drop enough to wear a full sleeves garment, so this tunic was kindly stored. But we have had some chilly evenings and I was in a bad mood, annoyed and tired, so this tunic appeared like the perfect mood booster to improve my attitude. If I was to name my clothes (Sheila rocks it), this would be my joyful tunic for sure!.
Mr. A. took my photos, as usual, when we went for a walk to run errands and then have an 'apéro' and my tunic received some compliments!. Joyful indeed!

purple & mixed stuff

We had a bank holiday in the middle of the week (August 15th) so it has been an unconventional week, like having two fridays and two sundays in a row, so not that bad. Temperatures have been quite pleasant, but still in the summer side, so we have enjoyed some walks and terraces and ice creams (mine without lactose, please). Obviously, I've managed to take only crap photos, because that's what happens when I'm having fun!.
Have a nice weekend and see you on the other side!

Tassel earrings that I made using those tassels which came at the end of a drawstring. Now my drawstring pants have some knots and I have some earrings!. I've also upcycled some broken earrings pieces, because I never throw away any beads!
And these 'crafty' earrings match my necklace!

pink crochet & cotton gauze

Temperatures plummeted from 39ºC to 23ºC last week, which I personally found a relief (even if it is going to be a short relief, as heat is coming back!). Last heatwave kept me at home after work, only venturing out to go to the swimming pool (and only because it's just around the corner). After some days of confinement I was really bored, so I'm enjoying these days, walking, running errands and having some social life!
I wore this light dress, made of cotton gauze, and my new crochet cardi that I recently finished. I'm not totally happy with the cardy because I was looking for a net effect with bigger gaps, but it's difficult to crochet this style using a fine thread. Anyway, I think that I'll keep it this way as I'm too lazy to undo the whole thing (who knows?!). This is a color I was used to hate and now it's becoming a favorite of mine!

heat & cold shoulder

I bought this (preloved) top at eBay because of its color (and beads!). It was a cold shoulders top, which looked quite strange on me, and too big too, so I sewed the sleeves to the straps, made some others adjustments and voilá, a totally useful top!. A major lesson learnt is that of the importance of not giving up when a second hand purchase doesn't look as expected, just give it a try!
The heat is still beating down hard, so lightweight fabrics are compulsory and I picked this sarong made of the lighter viscose ever. I've become a huge fan of kaftans, sarongs and beachwear for any occasion, as they're usually practical in the summer heat and add lots of color and fun!. I bought this sarong when on vacation in March to be worn as a scarf, but it would be a waste not to show its massive blue and magenta shades properly!

How to manage this heatwave & gingham top #4

My (personal) advice to keep the coolness in a heatwave (assorted swear words included)

- Use your #&#* common sense: lightweight and natural fabrics, loose garments, light colors. No thick black t-shirts, no knits, no polyester and, please, no lycra.

- Use your #&#* common sense (part #2). To keep yourself hydrated, drink water and avoid alcohol or soft drinks. Beer is not going to keep you hydrated, as alcohol sucks all the water off your body, so have a glass of water in the middle of your beer intake, if you don't want to faint like a Jane Austen character.
And nobody wants to have a hangover in a #&#* hot day, for sure.

- Take care of your skin.
Sunscreen and a hat are your best friends (remember to apply sunscreen on your ears!) but it is also a good idea to cover your shoulders and cleavage, as these are the most exposed parts of your body when standing up. Even a short walk in the city can get you a sunburn.
It could look counter-intuitive, but strapless or sleeveless tops are not always the best choice in a sunny day.

It's better to avoid heavy metallic jewelry these days, not only because of the uncomfortable weight, but also because metal pieces overheat quickly and can burn your skin. Think on some washable (and light) bijouterie because you'll have to remove all the sunscreen from them. I like beads and light pendants, but many people prefer to avoid any jewelry when it's hot.

- Wear comfy shoes. Pick some breathable and light sandals with a thick sole which will keep your feet away from the overheated pavement. Flip flops are particularly uncomfortable, but people keep wearing them anyway, even when taking a bus, walking on cobblestones or on melting asphalt. Who am I to judge!?

Wish you a cool weekend!

My sewing skills are quite limited, so I have to draw upon same patterns repeatedly. This is the fourth gingham top that I sew and the third one that I made on same pattern. The best part is that, as a repeat offender, it has become easier to make it. However, it has also become uninspiring!. Anyway this is still a fav pattern to make short dresses (I'm sewing a plaid one!)
