New & Better Than New

As work was hectic last weeks (and will be probably more hectic in the summertime) it's becoming difficult to find the time even to visit your blogs or write anything!. Totally in a fuzzy brain time these days (more than usual!) due to spending too much time in the computer. I've been told that this can be also another symptom of the menopause (so many delightful symptoms, particularly the bloating and putting weight on, argh!). Whatever the brain fog, I'm trying to keep myself focused and not give up blogging!

Como ha empezado la temporada alta en el trabajo, y será peor según llegue el verano, se me está haciendo difícil encontrar tiempo para escribir nada ni visitar blogs. Estoy muy liada estos días y no tengo ganas de pasar más tiempo en el ordenador, además de que me cuesta concentrarme. Resulta que también es otro encantador síntoma menopaúsico, que se añade a las alegrías de la hinchazón y el aumento de peso (maravilloso!). Sea como sea, intentaré mantenerme concentrada lo suficiente como para seguir por aquí!

I recently shopped this top at a local designer's shop called Eme, as I fell in love with that beautiful cotton fabric. I don't buy New frequently but, when I do, I try to pick something to last a long time (and to make me feel particularly happy). Double check!.

Hace poco compré esta blusita en la tienda de la diseñadora local Eme, y es que me encantó el estampado de esta tela de algodón. No compro ropa Nueva frecuentemente, pero si lo hago procuro que sea algo que vaya a durar y que además me haga sentir especialmente feliz (y esta vez lo cumple todo!).

I wore same trousers next day, but picked darker hues to match my Seasalt jacket (and the cloudy and rainy day). That blouse is my Better Than New item. I was looking for some blouses to go with trousers, and decided to go shopping to my own wardrobe. Et voilá!, I noticed that I already had those blouses in my wardrobe, only that they were really tunics waiting to be shortened!. Small project, big impact. I've had that tunic for ages (Jul2010), and didn't wear it frequently last years (style evolves!), so it's so much better to have a blouse now!.

Me puse el mismo pantalón al día siguiente, pero con tonos más oscuros para combinar con la gabardina de Seasalt y con el día nublado y lluvioso. La blusa no es precisamente Nueva, sino Mejor Que Nueva. Me explico. Estaba buscando alguna blusa para llevar con pantalón y decidí ir de compras a mi armario. Y voilá, encontré que ya tenía esas blusas, sólo que eran en realidad túnicas esperando a ser acortadas. Es una costura sencilla, y un resultado inmediato!. Esta túnica la tenía hace siglos (Jul2010) pero últimamente no me la ponía (el estilo cambia!), así que está mucho mejor como blusa ahora.

My 'bold pastels' pullover (thanks for that name, dear Beate) is becoming a favourite of mine. I'd wear it almost everyday, weather permitting (I've considered some layering for winter months!). The pink trousers are twins of those turquoise-aqua ones I wore previously (yes, I shopped two pairs, they're really comfortable!). Second hand denim jacket (80's vibe!). Charity shopped necklace. Sneakers by Adidas outlet.

Este jersey en colores variados se está convirtiendo en uno de mis favoritos, me lo pondría casi cada día, si el tiempo lo permite (y he considerado que también lo puedo llevar en invierno, con capas y superposiciones). El pantalón rosa es igual que el de color turquesa de antes, porque me compré dos iguales, sí, porque eran comodísimos. La chaqueta denim es de segunda mano y tiene un aire ochentero. Massive Crochet & Art

The weather was more springlike last week, unpredictable but mostly rainy and windy!. So I wore more layers and enjoyed more walks in the city parks, because I'm that kind of people. Not a summer lover myself, I prefer these chillier temperatures!

El tiempo estuvo más primaveral la semana pasada, muy variable pero sobre todo con viento y lluvia. Así que me puse unas capas más de ropa y salí a dar más paseos por los parques de la ciudad, soy así, no me entusiasma el verano y prefiero un poquito de variedad y temperaturas más frescas.

My repeat offender of the week was that vintage purple skirt (a present by Vintage Vixen) which I wore two days in a row. It has an interesting texture and colour, so I picked some statement pieces to enhance these qualities. Firstly I picked my Massive Crochet Coat, a piece that I don't wear frequently. Even if I'm a huge fan of comfort, I crocheted this thing, a piece difficult to style and not particularly comfortable nor practical, that gets caught on door knobs. But love its massiveness and attitude!

Mi reincidente de la semana fue esta falda morada vintage que fue un regalo de Vintage Vixen, me la puse dos días seguidos. Como tiene esta textura y color tan interesantes, elegí combinarla con otras piezas que destacasen también. Primero elegí el abrigo de ganchillo (enorme) que es una prenda difícil de combinar, y además ni es especialmente cómoda ni práctica, y se engancha en los picaportes de las puertas, todo ventajas. Y aún así, me encanta, me parece que da mucha actitud.

I was looking forward to wearing that waistcoat again and took some pics, as I own it months ago but it was never the right moment to take a pic (no time, too rainy, too dark, whatever). Actually, it's an old waistcoat that I took to the local designer Ramonak workshop to be jazzed up with Art!

Estaba deseando ponerme este chaleco de nuevo y poder sacarle foto, porque lo tengo hace meses y nunca parece un buen momento para ello (no hay tiempo, llueve, ya no hay luz, siempre pasa algo!). En realidad es un chaleco viejo que llevé al taller de Ramonak workshop para que aplicase su talento, ese Arte!.

I wore this same outfit morning to evening, from work to the cinema where we saw a documentary. I'm not only a huge fan of non-fiction as a reader, I also like to watch documentaries (not everybody's cup of tea!). When walking to the cinema, I could not help but stop to smell the roses.

Esto mismo me lo puse mañana y tarde, del trabajo al cine, donde vimos un documental. No sólo me gusta leer no-ficción, también me gusta verla (ya sé que no es un gusto mayoritario). Y yendo de paso, no pude evitar parar un momento a contemplar las rosas.

Geometric Spring

Finally we're having some rainy and springlike weather, not really cold but chilly. Actually, I don't miss those unseasonably hot temperatures we had previously (30ºC!), even if I can understand that they sounded like heaven to some of you!.
Last week I had to run errands most evenings, even if not the most interesting ones (doctor, pharmacy, supermarket). But I also payed a visit to the yarn shop. I had completed my last crochet project and had some leftover yarn, so shopped a few more cotton balls to start a new projet (only to make the most of those leftovers). This can easily become a neverending tale!. However, I will incidentally stop crocheting as the temperatures rise and other activities reclaim my attention (sewing some summery stuff, reading, organising excursions!)

Finalmente estamos teniendo el tiempo normal para esta época del año, incluso lluvia, y algo más fresco. Personalmente no echo de menos el calor de las últimas semanas, por mucho que esas temperaturas de 30ºC puedan parecer agradables desde fuera.
Esta semana pasada tuve que salir a hacer recados muchas tardes, aunque no fuesen del tipo interesante (médico, farmacia, supermercado). Pero sí que hice una visita a la tienda de lanas. Como ya había acabado mi último proyecto de ganchillo, tenía algún ovillo sobrante, así que compré unos pocos más, sólo para aprovechar los que quedaban. Esto parece el cuento de nunca acabar. Sin embargo, ya no voy a seguir más con el ganchillo muy pronto, porque según suben las temperaturas hay otras cosas que hacer, arreglarse alguna ropa de verano, leer al fresco, organizar excursiones!.

This top-pullover was particularly lovely to make, as it involves picking colours to mix and match and it was really relaxing to make it!. As I'm a huge fan of geometric motives, I had planned to make a black and white cardigan (still have it in my mind!) but changed my mind and picked some random colours which tickled my fancy. Mr.A. pointed that these are not my typically bold colours!
I had to wear a lightweight trench (LaRedoute, old) on Monday as it was chilly in the morning. Skirt was made of a second hand dress. Sneakers by Reebok outlet (old). Usual cork bag by Fine Cork Portugal.

Este jerseicito ha sido muy agradable de tejer, sobre todo el elegir los colores y combinarlos, es muy relajante de hacer. Como soy muy aficionada a los patrones geométricos tenía pensado hacerme una chaqueta y en blanco y negro (todavía sigo pensándolo) pero cambié de opinión y elegí unos colores según me pareció en la tienda. Mr.A. me ha hecho notar que no son mis habituales colores vivos!.
El lunes por la mañana estaba algo fresco por la mañana, así que me puse esta gabardina ligera (de LaRedoute). La falda está hecha de un vestido de segunda mano. Zapatillas Reebok outlet, antiguas. Y el habitual bolso de corcho de Fine Cork Portugal.

Obviously, the crochet pullover had to be worn again the next day. Probably I'll wear it as many times as possible and get you bored of it!. It's always easy to wear a multicoloured item, as it goes with anything!. I wore my turquoise-agua trousers (shopped retail last year) and same orange trench. Sneakers by Adidas. Earrings shopped at local retailer Eme. Cross-body bag shopped retail.

Claro está que me tenía que poner el jersey otra vez, y probablemente me lo ponga todo lo que pueda, hasta aburrir!. Siempre es fácil ponerse algo multicolor que admite mil combinaciones. Este pantalón turquesa es de una tienda local, del año pasado, y la gabardina es la misma de antes. Zapatillas de Adidas. Pendientes de la tienda local de Eme. Bolsito cruzado de otra tienda local.

More geometric motives in this new dress my mom gave to me. I think it's more an autumn-winter dress, but I'm happy to have it right now in my wardrobe, as the weather changed dramatically in the last days of the week (my winter clothes are stored!). It's really an easy-to-wear piece, it doesn't need anything except some tights/leggings and a trenchcoat. Really comfy!.

Creo que es más de otoño-invierno, pero ahora mismo me alegro de tenerlo en el armario, porque el tiempo ha cambiado de pronto y tengo la ropa de invierno ya guardada. Es un vestido facilísimo de llevar, no necesita gran cosa, unas medias/leggings y una gabardina y listo. Comodísimo!

Long story short

This week I have made a great start, as I have uninstalled IG. I've been considering it for some time, as it's becoming more and more difficult to navigate through advertisements and random stuff, but I still want to catch up with the many interesting people I like to see. But I changed my mind last Sunday, when I noticed that I had spent two hours there, don't ask me how or why, because usually I don't spend more than twenty minutes (and that's a lot of time). Totally like getting sucked into a black hole and coming back hours after (with no idea of how long you've been watching stuff you're not really interested in). I felt totally cheated not only because of my stolen two hours (as I'm lacking time to do the things I love) but also because of the obvious manipulation, so immediately removed the app. Enough is enough. On the other hand, I'm still reading blogs and prefer them, as they have a context, a temporal line, and their own rythm, not depending on an algorithm.
I don't know if I'll reinstall it or not (still too angry to consider it) but for sure I'll be more cautious in the future!.

Esta semana he empezado a lo grande, desinstalando instagram. Estaba dándole vueltas hace tiempo, porque se me estaba haciendo más y más difícil llegar a ver lo que publica la gente interesante que quiero ver, atravesando esa maraña de anuncios y sugerencias varias. Pero ya me decidí el domingo a última hora, cuando me dí cuenta de que llevaba dos horas en ello, no me preguntéis cómo ni porqué, porque normalmente le dedico veinte minutos (y ya es mucho). Quedarse enganchada sin poder dejarlo, y volver en tí misma horas después, sin haberte dado cuenta de cuánto tiempo ha pasado, viendo y viendo cosas que ni siquiera te interesan. Esto ha sido nuevo para mí, esta sensación de que me han robado dos horas, cosa que me enfada particularmente porque me falta tiempo para otras cosas que me gustan. Y además la falta de control como que me están manipulando totalmente. He desinstalado todo, claro, porque con una vez me vale. Por otro lado, sigo leyendo blogs, y lo prefiero, porque tienen contexto, línea temporal, sentido, y dependo sólo de mis gustos, no de un algoritmo.
Todavía es pronto para saber si volveré o no, pero pienso tener mucho más cuidado en el futuro.

But let's speak on clothes!. I wore that outfit last week, as it was unseasonably hot again, so I could wear sandals even early in the morning and also a summer trench. More lightweight fabrics in the skirt and shirt, and one of my favourite colour combos, orange and purple. Sandals by Chiruca outlet. Trench by LaRedoute (old). Second hand shirt (old). The skirt is so old it has become vintage, as I shopped it when I was seventeen (still looking quite nice).
Pero hablemos de trapos!. Esto me lo puse la semana pasada, ya que de nuevo hacía un calor fuera de lo normal, así que me puse sandalias desde primera hora de la mañana y una gabardina ligera de verano. También son de tejidos ligeros la falda y la camisa, y en una de mis combinaciones de color favoritas, morado y naranja. Sandalias de Chiruca outlet. Gabardina de LaRedoute, antigua. Camisa de segunda mano. La falda es tan vieja que ya es vintage, ya que la compré cuando tenía diecisiete años (y todavía está bastante bien!).

This cardi-coat is really versatile and goes with every colour in my wardrobe (not so difficult, it's a riot of colour!). I wore my rock'n'roll inspired t-shirt (designed by a a local artist at Ramonak Workshop) with a skirt I made of a second hand dress. Not everybody's cup of tea, but I like some contrasts.

Esta chaqueta larga de ganchillo está resultando muy versátil y va bien con cada color que haya en mi armario (tampoco es tan difícil, tengo una arcoiris ahí dentro). Me puse mi camiseta de inspiración rock'n'roll, hecha por la diseñadora local de Ramonak Workshop con una falda que me hice de un vestido de segunda mano. No es del gusto de todo el mundo, pero a mí me van los contrastes a veces.

The weather has been more 'springlike' last days, storms and all, but I was still going barelegged because it was quite warm. Unpredictable weather again!. I wore this (second hand) cotton dress with a jacket (also second hand), and added that artisan necklace as usual. I tend to wear these pieces together. El tiempo se ha vuelto más primaveral en los últimos días, con tormentas y todo, pero ha seguido bastante templado, así que seguimos sin medias. Muy impredecible todo. Me puse este vestido de algodón (de segunda mano) con chaqueta (también de segunda mano) y el collar artesano que suelo ponerme con estas prendas siempre.
